Where to stay
From a Michelin-starred Belle Époque villa in a pine forest to a spa hotel on a picture-postcard harbour in Veli Lošinj — the island punches well above its weight for accommodation.
A Belle Époque villa set deep in the pine forest of Čikat Bay, with a private beach, a pool terrace overlooking the sea, and the Michelin-listed Restaurant Alfred Keller. One of the most beautiful hotel settings on the Croatian coast. The rooms are elegantly furnished; the surrounding forest means the air is extraordinary. Book the restaurant whether or not you stay.
On the edge of the harbour in Veli Lošinj — the smaller, quieter town — with a serious spa and wellness programme, a restaurant that reflects the tranquillity of the picture-postcard harbour around it, and direct access to the sea. The signature restaurant Sirius is one of the best on the island. The most peaceful place to stay on Lošinj.
In the pine forest above Veli Žal beach — one of Lošinj’s best beaches, Blue Flag rated, with clear water and a natural stone shore. Large, comfortable rooms, a swimming pool, and direct access to the beach and sea. Good for families and for guests who want the beach as the primary activity. The surrounding forest provides welcome shade in high summer.
On the edge of Čikat Bay, with sea views, a large outdoor pool, and the Bellevue Spa Clinic — which includes a cryotherapy chamber, the only one on the island, used by some of Croatia’s top athletes for recovery. A good mid-range option if the Alhambra is beyond budget; the pine forest and bay setting are the same.
The most authentic way to stay on Lošinj — a private apartment in the old town or along the harbour, with a kitchen, a terrace, and the morning fish market within walking distance. Book through Booking.com or direct with local owners. Prices fall sharply outside July and August. The best value on the island for longer stays.
All five options are on or near Lošinj’s western shore. The Alhambra and Bellevue are in Čikat Bay, five minutes from Mali Lošinj harbour by car or a pleasant twenty-minute walk through the pines. Hotel Punta is in Veli Lošinj, ten minutes further south.
